Baker Hughes: US rig count down 10 units to 1,006
The US drilling rig count is down 10 units to 1,006 rigs working for the week ended Mar. 29, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is up 13 units from the 993 rigs working this time a year ago.
With a 12-unit loss week-over-week, 981 rigs are drilling on land. One fewer rig is drilling in inland waters where 2 units were drilling for the week. The number of rigs drilling offshore is up 3 units to 23.
US oil-directed rigs fell by 8 from last week to 816 units working yet up 19 units from the 797 rigs drilling for oil this week a year ago. Gas-directed rigs are down 2 units at 190, and down 4 from the 194 units drilling for gas a year ago.
Among the major oil and gas-producing states, two saw a week-over-week increase. Louisiana, at 65 units working, was up 3 rigs for the week. North Dakota gained 3 rigs to reach 60.
Six states remained unchanged this week, namely New Mexico, 104; Pennsylvania, 48; Wyoming, 36; West Virginia, 18; Ohio, 14; and Arkansas, 0.
Texas dropped the most rigs for the week. Down 6 units, 491 rigs were drilling for the week ended Mar. 29. Colorado saw a 4-rig drop, running 30 rigs for the week. Down 3 units is Alaska with 6 rigs running, while California dropped 2 units to reach 13 for the week. The rig counts in Oklahoma and Utah fell by a single unit to reach 108 and 7, respectively.
Canada’s rig count is down 17 units for the week. At 88 rigs, the count is 46 fewer than the 134 units drilling this week a year ago. A 14-rig drop brought the oil-directed rig count to 35 for the week. Gas-directed rigs in Canada fell by 3 units to reach 53.
