India’s Oil & Natural Gas Corporation has claimed a new record of drilling in the deepest water depths at 3165 metres or 10,385 feet.

The New Delhi-headquartered explorer said the feat was achieved by Transocean’s Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 (DDKG 1) drillship at KG-DWN-2004/1 off India’s east coast.

The NA7-1 was drilled to a total depth of 5625 metres.

ONGC said that the waters drilled in were the deepest ever, surpassing Transocean’s own record set in 2011 with the DDDKG2 drilling for Reliance Industries in depths of 3107 metres or 10,194 feet, also off eastern India.
